We Can Read!

We are reading with Mrs Carr and learning to check the picture clues, match them with the first letters in the words and have another go to fix it up if it doesn't make sense. Kapai Keaton, Shannon-Haze and Beckley! You are doing all of these things!

Routines and Tips

Welcome to Room 15. Here are some tips that will help with daily routines.

On arrival:

Encourage your child to develop organisational skills by expecting them to:

Hang their bag on the hook.
Put their drink bottle on the bench (water only please)
Write their name on board.

As you leave they will take their home folder to the mat and read last nights reading book to another child or to the teacher.

Any other requirements such as notices/money to office

Poetry and Publishing books in tote tray on a Monday

Finished library books to returns tray

Heat ups to tray on a Wednesday (clearly marked with name and room number)

Please allow plenty of time before the 8.55 bell. Children are welcome to choose quiet classroom activities if they are ready early or they can play outside until the bell rings.

Lunch routines:

All classes sit outside together for lunch on fine days and are released by the duty teacher after they have shown an empty lunch box, so be careful with reasonable portions of food. We have a brain food break during class time when children are allowed to snack on a piece of fruit or other healthy option – these include popcorn, dried fruit, cheese, plain crackers.

Homework:

Reading is the main focus for homework. Each night the children will have a reading book. Please encourage them to record this themselves in their reading log.
You can support your child to learn their letters, words and numbers by using the learning folder in their home folder. These help to consolidate knowledge – short bursts everyday is the key to their success. Sometimes they will have some basic facts maths cards to work on their maths goal.
Spelling homework begins once they have a grasp of basic sight words and is accompanied by clear instructions.
On Fridays a poem book comes home instead of the homework book. Children enjoy having an audience to read their poems to. Please return these on the Monday morning.
Library: Our library day is Friday. Each child can take 1 book home per week. Please return them to the class library box before Friday.

General: We take shoes on and off frequently and children are encouraged to be able to do this themselves. We do physical activity everyday therefore practical shoes are recommended.
